The Craftsman 45 Minute Lawn Tractor

June 13, 2009

The story of getting my riding lawn mower will go down as one of the epic equipment stories.

Sears only delivers to Enville on Thursdays – I couldn’t be there on Thursday so I had the tractor delivered to my father-in-law’s house in Oakland TN.   One of my  web customers, an all around great Guy at ATV Express,  shipped a pair of ramps to the Oakland address so I could load the tractor on a pick-up and take it to Enville.

We had it all planned.  The tractor would be delivered on Friday, I would borrow my brother-in-laws truck, load it using my new ramps and drive it to Enville.   So I thought.   Sears called and said that the tractor was damaged and couldn’t be delivered until Sunday,  the day I had to leave.

The tractor gets to Oakland on Sunday, I see it come off the truck and then have to head straight to Nashville to catch my flight.

Thanks to my brother- in-law the tractor made it to Enville.

So the next time I am there,  I am pumped to use my tractor.  Sunday we all take turns cutting with it. In the picture below is my oldest child.  (I’ve been trying to get him to cut grass for 25 years.  If I’d only known all I needed was a riding lawnmower.)

Dad can this jump a pond?

We only cut for 45 minutes,  it’s getting late and we still had to drive back to Oakland.

The next day I crank up my new lawn mower and start working.  Within 4 minutes it had broken.  The lever to engage the blades broke in the engaged position. This means I can’t start the damn thing.

So I push the 500 lb. tractor back to my shop.

I called Sears and after a few choice words they informed me that they’d bring me another one soon.  On Thursday.  Here we go again.

I’ll let you know.
